Exemption Policy

EXEMPTION POLICY:
All students who are registered in:
•    2 classes that require a final – may exempt one final exam if eligible
•    3+ classes that require a final – may exempt two final exams if eligible

Each student in Grades 10-12 is eligible to receive WDS exemption(s) from their final exams if they meet the following criteria:
•    The student must have a mark of 75% in the class going into the final.
•    The student has not received an in-school suspension for any reason. If they have, they are not eligible for any exemptions for that semester.
•    The student has not received an out of school suspension for any reason. If they have, they are not eligible for any exemptions for that school year.
•    Students must meet the conditions set up by the individual teacher.
•    Transfer students must have transferred no later than one month after the start date of the semester.
•    Non-semester classes must have transferred prior to Oct. 31st of the year.
•    Students must be in good standing with regard to any school fees.

Exemptions will not be granted to any student with unexcused absences in more than 4 classes in any one class or a total of more than 8 classes in total for reasons listed as unacceptable in the Education Act, in any combination of classes in a semester. School sanctioned events are exempt.
Any 5 unexcused lates/tardiness to a class equals one unexcused absence, which will be added to the unexcused absence total.
Unexcused absences include, but are not limited to, the following examples:
•    Leaving school without office approval or notification
•    Missing the bus
•    Serving an out-of-school suspension
•    Over sleeping
•    Skipping class
•    Failing to notify the administration within 24 hours of your return with the reason for an absence. Absences cannot be cleared for classes missed more than one week in the past. Please attend to these matters early.
