Grade 4/5 After-School Curling Club is tomorrow, Wednesday, February 11, from 3:30–4:30.

Grade 6/7/8 students, please return your curling jackets to Miss Fedak. Curling for Grades 6/7/8 will be on Thursday, February 12, from 3:30–4:30.

Our final curling day for Grades 4–8 will be Thursday, February 26.

 

Congratulations to the Sr. Doubles curling team! Maelle and Brianna swept the District competition in Foam Lake on Friday, winning 8-2, and 9-3! They are the first WDS curling team to move on to Regionals in over 6 years! Wish them the best of luck as they head to Prince Albert on February 27, to compete at Regionals!

We’re proud to recognize our curlers who competed at pre-districts. You showed great teamwork, effort, and sportsmanship!

 

Boys Team:

Leads Max showed positivity and dedication, and Joshua gave great effort and strong sweeping. William stayed calm under pressure and supported the team at second. Jett made some amazing takeouts, and Kyle did a great job calling the game and leading the team as skip.

 

Girls Grade 6 Team:

Leads Ivy and Olive worked hard getting rocks in play especially impressive for Ivy in her first year. Briar showed great slides with amazing draws at second, Elise made an awesome takeout, and Maren called a great game and made some strong hits as skip.

 

Girls Grade 7 Team:

Leads Saphira and Sophia started strong, with Saphira making a perfect draw-and-guard combo.Sophia brought great excitement and positivity to the game. Ava supported the team with strong, consistent play at second, Estelle swept hard and supported the team all game, and Lily called a great game and made great draws as skip.

 

Congratulations to all teams. The boys for earning a win. Both girls’ teams had an exciting battle that came down to the very last rock! Miss Fedak is so proud to see how much you’ve grown, how you supported each other, and the amazing sportsmanship you showed. Great job, everyone!

 

No grade 6/7/8 curling on Thursday, February 5.

 

The book fair is closed today as Mrs. Hancock is away. It will be open tomorrow. So Teachers, please manage the chrome book carts in her absence.

Congratulations to the basketball team for their second place finish in the SW Boys League. The team fought hard against Holdfast last night and gave it their all traveling with only seven players. The team was victorious in the fourth quarter thanks to the superior passing of Ross and Cooper, tireless workethic of Jayce, quick steals by Yixi, super shooting by Dale and Hudson and outstanding rebounding by Josie.  Well done team! 

 

If there are any students that have projects still in the IA lab from last semester, please make a plan to take these home or they will be repurposed.

Starting Monday, February 2nd, we are introducing WAFAs.  What’s a WAFA?  A WAFA is a Warm and Fuzzy Acknowledgment to recognize someone who has put others before themselves, gone above and beyond to help someone or has shown a random act of kindness.  If you would like to have someone recognized for their efforts, staff or student, please come see Ms Betker for a WAFA to be added in their name to the bulletin board outside the office.  Submissions can be public or anonymous. Let’s share our Viking spirit by acknowledging the good in our school!

Congratulations to the basketball team on another big win last night against Watrous.  Shout out to Dale and Charlee for scoring a plethora of baskets, Jayce, Hudson, Yixi and Josie for dominating the boards and Cooper for playing through the pain and driving the ball up the court all game long. Team will be playing in the league final on Monday, well done! Practice Thursday at 3:30 - 5:00.

Congratulations to the junior basketball team for a hard fought game against Holdfast last night. The team won the second half of the game. A shout out to Jayce for his fantastic defensive skills, Hudson, Josie and Dana  for outstanding rebounding, Yixi for excellent ball retrieval, Cooper and Dale for superior shooting and Nolan R for the pass of the year.  The team is in action tonight in Watrous and there will be a practice Thursday after school. Can all players please meet Mrs. Lech outside her office right after announcements.

National Ribbon Skirt Day was on January 4, and we’d like to acknowledge this day together with Horizon School division with a visible show of support and respect by wearing ribbon skirts. 

 

Exemption forms for final exams are due Friday, January 16 at 3:00, no exceptions.  Forms are available in the office.

 

Congratulations to the Junior Basketball Team on their 38 - 22 win over Watrous last night. Rebounding and second shots made a difference.  Shout out to Jayce, Cooper and Dale for their pass interceptions.  Ross, Dana and Charlee for strong layups and Hudson, Yixi and Josie for filling the gaps under the basket.  The top scorer of the night was Dana with 18 points.  Well done team.  The next practice is Thursday at 3:30

A big congratulations to Ms Fidyk and the William Derby Cheer team for snagging 1st PLACE at the Winter Knockout Cheer Competition this past weekend!  What an amazing start to the season for the team.  If you haven’t seen the performance, find it on our Facebook page.  These girls make a fantastic team!  Way to go Vikings Cheer Team!

 

Thank you to everyone who contributed to the Telemiracle pizza day and hat day last Friday.  If you missed out, fear not!  We are doing it again this Friday. $3/slice and $2 to wear a hat.

National Ribbon Skirt Day was on January 4, and we’d like to acknowledge this day together with Horizon School division on January 13, 2026.  National Ribbon Skirt Day was inspired by the resilience of Isabella Kulak, and honours Indigenous women by celebrating the strength of Indigenous womanhood, identity, and connection to Mother Earth.  Horizon's students and staff are warmly invited to wear a ribbon skirt on January 13 as a visible show of support and respect.

Fitness Club after school today as we celebrate The 12 Days of Christmas.  This is a classic workout done by people all over the world and I’m excited to push our way through it together.  Please let Mr. Wachal or Mr. McCreary know if you will be attending.  See you in the Weight Room after school. 

 

Congratulations to Hannah (Theiss?) in grade 6 for guessing the exact number of candies in the jar! A lot of you guessed 67 which surprisingly was not the correct number!

Due to expected blizzard conditions, Horizon School Division will be running buses at 12:00

noon today. Schools will remain open and we will ensure all students are picked up safely. 

 

There will be a canteen option on Friday at the Christmas Classic.  Watch for details.

Day 2 of Holiday Spirit week - Student/Teacher Swap!  Tomorrow is Santa Grinch Day - dress up in red and green colours! ….and HOT CHOCOLATE DAY!To get hot chocolate, you must bring a mug… or another cup similar in size. Hot chocolate will be available in the home ec room over lunch. 

 

Grade 4/5 After-School Curling Club is tomorrow, Wednesday, December 17, from 3:30–4:30.

Please bring a helmet if you have one, a hoodie or sweater, and clean shoes.

We will meet in Miss Fedak’s classroom and walk to the rink together.

 

There is a yearbook committee meeting after school in the computer lab until 4:30.

 

Teachers - again we will have many late arrivals with the road conditions.  Please ensure you are having the students check in when they arrive and please ensure the attendance is updated from Absent to Late and hit post again,  Thank you 

 

Congratulations to the Junior Basketball Team on their definitive victory or Imperial last night.  The team dominated the boards, moved the ball fast and crushed their layups.  Well done! We will practice tonight from 3:30 - 5:00.

 

Monday, December 15, 2025 Day 1G

 

Christmas spirit week is here!  Today is Christmas Sweater day and tomorrow is Student/Teacher swap. This means students can dress up like teachers and teachers will dress up like students!  This should be good!

 

Thank you to everyone who contributed to the Holiday Food Drive.  So great to see such generosity.

 

This Friday is the Christmas Class Hockey match.  Watch our FB page for player profiles!

 

Students arriving late and leaving early - you MUST check in and check out at the office.  This includes high school students who drive.

 

This week there will be a yearbook meeting on Tuesday after school.

 

Please note that Mrs Hancock is away.  Students, please be diligent on returning your chromebooks to the chromebook carts.  Teachers, please keep an eye on them and make sure they are locked up at the end of the day.

 

All cheerleaders please come to Ms. Fidyks room at first break for a short meeting. 

 

Fitness Club after school today.  We will be tackling “Up the Wall”, a fun, short, little burst of energy, perfect for a Monday.  See you after school in the Weight Room.
