This Friday is School Photo Day. 

 

There will be no Band or Choir today as Mr. Hamilton is away today

 

Students from grades 7-12 are invited to the SLC Halloween Dance & Carnival on Tuesday, October 29 from 7pm-9pm.  Come dressed to WIN!

 

There will be a yearbook meeting after school today in the computer lab. 

 

We are missing 4 chromebooks. (Red 15, 20, 23 and 24). At the end of the day please return all chromebooks to the correct carts and plug them in.

 

Reminder: Grade 12 students, there is a MyCreds session on Thursday at 12:30 with Mr. Ireland.  Please meet in Mrs. Lech’s room.

 

The first elementary volleyball practice is tomorrow after school. Please drop your form off to Ms. Gay.

 

Thank you to everyone who helped at the elementary cross country meet after school yesterday.  Thank you to De Wet and Savana for helping to walk the students over and for running with the students and to the Grade 9s who also helped!

Elementary cross country runners please meet Mrs. Dunlop at the track at the start of lunch recess.  The elementary cross country track meet will take place after school on Tuesday, October 22nd.  Please have your parents sign the permission form and return to school by Thursday, October 17th.  

 

Congratulations on a great season to the Vikings Flag Football team who wrapped up their season with a decisive win in Raymore last night. You showed impressive ability, leadership and sportsmanship throughout the season and you represented your school and community very well. Go Vikings Go!

All Flag Football players who are planning on attending the game in Raymore after school please go to Mr. McCreary’s room after O Canada.

A huge congratulations goes out to your WDS high school cross country team.  Four athletes competed at Provincials in Dixon on Saturday, with Savana finishing 34th, De Wet 58th, Lincoln 66th, and Gabe 78th.  Each race featured 100-110 runners.  As a team, we improved 39 points over last year.  Great job, Vikings! 

 

Cross country runners please return your singlets.  If you have not yet returned it, Mr. Edwards may be around to speak to you today.

 

Thank you for returning the chromebooks to their carts.  If you see Red #20 or Blue #5 please return them to the carts.

No cross country practice today.  We have now reached the end of the season, so thank you to all who have participated.  We wish the four provincial runners - Savana, Gabe, Lincoln and De Wet - good luck on Saturday. Go Vikings!  If you have not yet done so, please return your green WDS singlet to Mr. Edwards.

Big thank you to everyone who came out and supported our athletes for our school sports week celebration  and to everyone who pitched in and helped make the evening a success.   It was great to celebrate our athletes.

Welcome to Farmer’s Day at WDS.  Classes will be called to the gym after attendance in period 3 to watch the big race.  If you have a chance, take your class through the library to enjoy the Viking Vegetable Village and view the Squash Derby entries, there are some excellent entries and characters in there.  Please do not touch any of the entries. Elementary teachers, you will receive a slide show of the Derby entries.  Please have your class vote for Best Decorated and Best Name.

Any Elementary students interested in entering to win a Thanksgiving meal for your family join Mrs. Heisler at the track at lunch time. The Turkey Trot is sponsored by the Strasbourg Rec Board. 

 

It is great to see the Squash Derby and Vegetable Village entries coming in this morning.  Please take your entry to the library with your name plate.  Don’t forget to include your name on your entry.

 

It is school sports week! We are celebrating today with a Flag Football game at 3:30 - 5:00 and Grade 7&8 volleyball game at 5:00 - 6:30. Come out and watch the action and enjoy a free hot dog and juice (while supplies last)!!

  • Thursday is Farmer Day. Vegetable Village and Squash Derby entries can be brought to the library by noon on Wednesday.  Don’t forget your name and the name of your entry on your name card.
  • Congratulations to the Grade 12 class for winning the MJ Tunnels Bunker 24 contest.  The class will tour Bunker 24 and listen to author Malcolm Bucholtz on October 16.  Well done, Grade 12s!
  • The cross country practice originally scheduled for today has been moved to tomorrow after school.  No practice today, but you can run on your own.  Anyone who still needs to return their singlet to Mr. Edwards, please do so this week.  Athletes competing in Dixon at Provincials this weekend, please let Mr. Edwards know your travel plans before Wednesday.

Friday, October 4, 2024 Day 4B

Jr B Girls volleyball practice at lunch today. Let Mrs. Heisler know if you can’t be there. 

 

The WDS cross country team had an outstanding day yesterday at Districts in Dixon.  Your Vikings had 12 top ten finishers out of 22 athletes that we sent.  De Wet Luus, Savana Wagner, Lincoln Martin and Gabe Deagnon all qualified for Provincials back in Dixon next Saturday.  As well, Gwen Martin took home the District championship medal for Pee Wee Girls, defeating all 19 of her competitors in a strong race that she won by a large margin.  As a team, we finished 6th in the District out of 21.  Great job Viking team, and good luck to the four moving onto Provincials! 

 

There will be a cross country practice Monday after school next week until 4:30. Anyone may participate, even if your competitive season has ended. All runners please return your singlets to Mr. Edwards as soon as possible, washed or unwashed.

 

There will be a yearbook meeting on Monday after school until 4:30. Anyone in Grades 7 to 12 interested in joining may attend. Please meet in the computer lab.

 

A reminder that the Squash Derby and Vegetable Village entries need to be in to the library on October 9 at noon.

Tuesday, October 1, 2024 Day 1I
Vikings dominated at the Flag Football Jamboree! Both Vikings teams went undefeated against Watrous and Raymore in the heat on Saturday. Big thank you’s go out to all the volunteers in the canteen as well as minor officials, refs and scorekeepers that helped the day go smoothly. Go Vikings!
 
Cross country practice after school today, regardless of weather. Meet in Mr. Edwards’ room after school. We will also have a brief meeting before lunch today to make sure everyone has a driving plan. If you are not moving on to Districts, make sure you return your singlet to Mr. Edwards as soon as possible.
 
Great work to the Jr girls volleyball team on their successful weekend in Quill Lake! We have a short practice tonight right after school. If you can’t make it, please let Mrs. Heisler know.
 
After a good tournament in Watson on the weekend, the Junior Grade 9 Girls volleyball team is back in action today with a home game after school against Humboldt. Come out and cheer on your Vikings!
 
Intramural Floor Hockey today at lunch between the Leprechauns and the Smurfs.
